To unlock the full potential of Al tools, writing effective prompts is crucial. A prompt can be a question, a statement, or anything that can spark a response.

How to craft your prompts

Basic approach

To write an effective prompt, you need to give Al a role, context, and task:

  • : Act as a [title]
  • : In this [situation]
  • : Do this [action]

Ex: Imagine you are a computer science student in your senior year (role). You’re applying to work at Tesla with the position of Software Engineering (context). I want you to write an email to your advisor asking him to write you a letter of recommendation (task)

Tailoring your responses

It is important to be clear and concise when writing prompts. The more detailed you provide, the better response you get.

Here are a few more steps you can take to get even better results:

  • : In this [style]
  • : Emphasize [quality]
  • : Be [level of detail]
  • : Show as [format]
  • : Here’s an [example]

More Tips

Be as specific as you can in your prompt. See the below examples from OpenAI.

Avoid asking multiple questions in a single prompt, instead, divide the complex task into small, manageable steps.

An important tip when using Al is to consider the tool your collaborator, not a servant. If you are not satisfied with the result, give Al a chance to enhance the response by offering additional information.
