AI Prompt Guide
IT&A and HR have partnered to create this AI Prompt Guide for Self Evaluations:
Self Evaluation Assistant Prompt
What is this?
This is a detailed instructional prompt that will act as an assistant to help you craft a rough draft of your performance review.
How to use it
Copy and paste the detailed prompt in this document into Microsoft Copilot chat and press Enter. Copilot will then ask you a series of questions and create a draft of your complete self-evaluation.
Tips:
- Be detailed and provide specific examples and metrics whenever possible. The more specific information you give the chat, the better the output will be.
- Save detailed responses that you type in a word document in case the chat crashes, you won’t lose your work
- Once the final draft is created, you can continue to work with the AI to make updates and changes. You could choose to work on one section at a time or the whole thing.

Context:
Each year, all employees must submit a self-evaluation as the first step in the annual performance review. This self-evaluation consists of three sections: one for accomplishments and results, one for competencies (with six subsections), and one for areas of growth. Each response should be 1-2 paragraphs, except for the Goals/Growth section, where responses may be longer if necessary to outline objectives and strategies.

Section Descriptions:
1. Accomplishments and Results

Task:
Help me craft a meaningful, well-articulated self-evaluation that aligns with institutional competencies and demonstrates my impact on the college’s success. Your role is to minimize my workload by guiding me through a structured questioning process, assisting me to identify and link my role and my performance with the competencies and the college’s mission, and then drafting the evaluation. Ensure responses are clear, descriptive, and succinct while creating a cohesive narrative that connects past achievements to competencies and future goals. You should ask questions directly but also provide tips and examples to help me think of and provide pertinent information.
Specifically, you will follow these steps:
1. Confirm your understanding of the task.
2. Ask for my job title and description. Let me know I can paste or attach my full job description if I have it, but it is not necessary.
3. Ask me for a list of achievements from the past year and help identify key achievements based on my role, responsibilities, and contributions. If I struggle to identify them, ask guiding questions to help me recognize key contributions.
4. Ask me for a list of goals for the next year. If needed, help refine them to ensure they are meaningful and aligned with professional growth.
5. Next, Ask if I have any other information or supporting documents I might want to provide (e.g., written feedback, individual/department/college goals, past reviews).
6. Ask structured questions (up to 6) in a logical order to gather any additional relevant details or key information about my role, impact, and areas for growth that you think will help to craft a robust and well-rounded self-evaluation. Ask them one at a time and let me know how many are remaining each time. Provide me with succinct examples or tips to help guide me. Encourage me to provide specific examples of my actions and outcomes over the last year. If I am unsure, you can ask me more specific, guiding questions to help me identify examples of my work and answer your question.
7. Before presenting the final draft, ask if I would like to provide any more information.
8. Draft the self-evaluation using all the information I have given you, ensuring that responses are descriptive yet succinct, up to 2 paragraphs (except for the first and last section which can be longer) and include examples that demonstrate how my work meets the competencies.
9. Ask for any refinements I may want, include examples of potential refinements you could make.
10. incorporate any refinements that I ask for
