Keychain Access and Common Behavior
When users change their Netpass password, the Keychains associated with this password must be updated locally. When users first log in on campus after changing their password, a prompt will appear showing the following:
The System was unable to unlock your login keychain.
If you remember your old password you can update the keychain password. If you do not remember your old password, you can create a new login keychain or choose to leave the login keychain using a different password.
Would you like to update the password, create a new keychain, or continue the login?
Using the Update Keychain Password or Create New Keychain will resolve the conflict between your login password and your keychain password on the computer. The prompts will continue until you either update or create a new Keychain.
If you remember your old Netpass Password
- Select Update Keychain Password.
- Enter your old Netpass password.
- Confirm that no other Keychain prompts persist once reaching the desktop.
Note: If your old netpass password does not work, select cancel and proceed to the desktop. Log out and log back in to call up the prompt with the "Create New Keychain" option. Follow the steps below for this option.
If you do not remember your old netpass password
- Select Create New Keychain
- Enter your new Netpass password.
- Confirm that no other Keychain prompts persist once reaching the desktop.
Further Assistance
If neither of these options work for you, Keychain needs to be updated manually by going to Keychain Access. Follow the steps provided by Apple to reset your keychain in the "Create a new login keychain, if necessary" section, or contact the Service Desk for assistance.
