This article will go over the basics of copying Rubrics between courses in Canvas. Each course has its own cache of rubrics, and you cannot use the regular "Copy To" feature to import rubrics between courses - therefore, you will need to use the Course Import tool.

If you use the course import tool to duplicate a previous course, the Rubrics will copy over with it, as well.

If you just want one or more rubrics from a previous or separate course, you can use the following directions:

 

How to Transfer Canvas Rubrics Between Courses

  1. Go to the course you wish to import the Rubric into. Navigate to your Settings.
     
  2. Click "Import Content into this Course".
     
  3. From the "Content-Type" dropdown, choose "Copy a Canvas Course".
     
  4. From the course select box, choose the course you wish to import the Rubric from.
     
  5. In the "Content" area, select the "Select specific content" button.
     
  6. Select "Import".
     
  7. Under "Current Jobs", find the row that has the date/time you did the import (should be the top row), and click "Select Content".
     
  8. Click on the triangle next to "Rubrics".
     
  9. Check the boxes next to the rubric(s) you wish to copy. Click "Select Content".
     
  10. You should now be able to access this rubric in your course "Rubrics" area.
