 Did you know that there is an extra step to take before your students can see their final grades in your Canvas course? In your settings, you will need to uncheck the “Hide Totals in Student Grades Summary” box if you wish them to see their final grade calculations in your course. 

There are also several important tools for configuring your final grades, such as assignment groups and grading schemes, that you may be using. Resources on these tools will be shared below.

How to Make Final Grades Visible to Students 

 

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the course navigation menu and click “Settings.” 
  2. Scroll to the bottom of your course settings and click “More Options.” 
  3. Uncheck the box “Hide Totals in Student Grades Summary.” 
  4. Click “Save.” 

 

Calculating your Final Grades with Canvas 

 

Student final grades in Canvas are typically a combination of all graded activities for the semester. There is a good chance that you will be using either a points-based system or a percentages-based system to calculate your grades, or some combination of the two.
