Medical Plan Options

Summary

Ithaca College offers two medical plan options: the High Deductible Health Plan or the Point of Service plan.

Body

Ithaca College offers two medical plan options. If you already have medical insurance (for example, under your spouse’s plan), you may opt-out of coverage. In order to decline coverage, you must certify that you have other coverage.

Both medical plans cover the same kinds of expenses — preventive care services (covered at 100% and not subject to the deductible), hospitalization, surgery, physician's office visits, prescriptions, and the like. Under both plans, a deductible must be met before most services are covered, and when you seek care from an in-network provider, your out-of-pocket cost is less because care sought from an out-of network provider is subject to a higher deductible and a lower reimbursement rate.

The differences between the plans include the amount of the deductible you pay before the plan begins to cover most services, the maximum amount you pay out of pocket and the cost of the premium. The general rule is the higher the deductible, the lower your premium. Please review your Benefits Guide for additional information.
