Insert a citation from the Course Readings tool within the Canvas Rich Content Editor.

If your Canvas Course has the Course Reading List tool enabled, you can easily link to it from the Canvas Rich Content Editor with the full citation.

This article will walk you through how to add a citation through the text editor found in many tools throughout Canvas. It is important to make sure that you have course readings list(s) created already and published to the course that you are working in. the Lib Guide for Course Readings can help you get started if needed.

Prepare your Course reading list.

  1. Log into your Canvas Course.
  2. Enable the Course Readings tool in Canvas from the Course Settings > Navigation. If you need help with this, visit the lib guide for course readings
  3. Make sure there is at least one item in your reading list. For help see the lib guide for adding content to reading list

Insert an item for the Course Readings list tool into the Rich Content Editor in Canvas.

  1. Navigate to anywhere in Canvas that contains the Rich Content Editor (e,g, page, assignment, announcement etc.)
  2. Click Edit
  3. In the body of the Rich Content Editor, click on the Plug icon.
  4. Click View All. The All Apps window will appear.
  5. From All Apps screen search for "Import Citations from Course Readings" and select it.

7. Check the box to the left of the article title, scroll down and choose the citation style, then click "ADD"

 

Citations embedded

Citations will then be embedded in your text editor in the format you selected with a link available to take you to the course reading.
