Audience
This article is for faculty who wish to use the Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) tool for administering a secure testing experience.
Note that the company also has an option for online monitoring/proctoring; however, Ithaca College only supports the use of the lockdown browser tool and the features it offers.
Training
Faculty can view the general training video from Respondus. Please disregard the information related to the monitoring piece as Ithaca College is not using the audio/video monitoring tools of Respondus.

Faculty - Setting up a Quiz/Exam using Respondus LDB
Please keep in mind that the way a student will access the lockdown browser depends on which Canvas Quiz tool (Classic Quizzes or New Quizzes) you use to build the quiz/exam. We recommend using New Quizzes when using the lockdown browser.
Student Information
The following information is what your students must do to take an exam using Respondus. Note that students must install the Respondus software in order to take the exam. It is highly recommended to have students do this well before the first exam, perhaps creating a separate Canvas assignment to install and test their software well before administering your first class Lockdown Browser exam. You may also want to create a simple Canvas 'test' quiz with one or two questions as part of the assignment, for students to verify that their software is properly installed and working correctly.

Accessing a Quiz/Exam using Respondus LockDown Browser (Canvas New Quizzes)
When a quiz/exam is built using the Canvas New Quizzes tool students will access the lockdown browser after clicking on the quiz. If the student already has the software installed, the lockdown browser will launch when they open the quiz; if they don't have the software installed, the download page will launch when they click on the quiz, prompting them to install the software.
Students - Accessing a Quiz/Exam using Respondus LockDown Browser (Canvas Classic Quizzes)
Canvas Classic Quizzes requires students to use the unique URL below for downloading the LockDown Browser application. Students need to start/open the LockDown Browser before navigating to the exam.
