Retiree Access to Applications

This article explains how access to Ithaca College provided applications and services changes when an employee retires from Ithaca College.

This article is intended for Ithaca College employees who are preparing for retirement or have recently retired from Ithaca College.

At a Glance: What Changes

When you retire from Ithaca College:  

  • You retain access to some services, such as your IC email account. 
  • Your institution-provided licenses for most applications end. 
  • Some tools transition to reduced or free versions. 
  • You may choose to purchase personal subscriptions using a non-College email address. 

Please note: Those who are of an Emeritus status or those who are retired but continue to teach at the College may have certain access restored.

Recommended Actions Before Retirement

Before your retirement date, we recommend that you: 

  • Review what access will end, especially file storage and licensed software 
  • Download or move files as appropriate from services such as OneDrive and Adobe Cloud Storage 
  • Uninstall Ithaca College licensed software from personal devices 
  • Set up personal accounts (Microsoft, Adobe, Zoom, etc.) using a non-IC email address, if you plan to continue using these tools

What You Keep

Email and Calendar (Outlook)

  • Retirees can continue to access their Ithaca College email account through Outlook on the web. 
  • Your email storage quota is reduced from 100 GB to 50 GB.

Important: Access to your IC email is maintained through Outlook on the web, but this does not include access to Microsoft Office desktop applications, OneDrive, or Teams.

What Goes Away (with Personal-Use Options)

Adobe

  • What changes: Access to Adobe applications (Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Sign, Adobe Acrobat) ends upon retirement.  
  • Actions to take: Transition any files stored in Adobe Cloud storage to another account before retirement.

Microsoft 365 (IC License)

Microsoft Office Desktop Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote)

Microsoft OneDrive

  • What changes: You will no longer have access to files stored in your Ithaca College OneDrive account.
  • Actions to take: 
    • Transfer important team files to a Microsoft Team or SharePoint site. 
    • Download or move any files you wish to keep before your retirement date. 
  • Personal-use options: OneDrive comes with a free or paid Microsoft 365 subscription with a non-College email address. 

Microsoft OneNote 

  • What changes: You will lose access to OneNote notebooks associated with your IC account. 
  • Actions to take: Copy work-related notebooks to a shared space, and copy personal notes to a personal Microsoft account.  
  • Personal-use options: OneNote comes with a free or paid Microsoft 365 subscription with a non-College email address. 

Microsoft Teams

  • What changes: You will lose access to Microsoft Teams after retirement.
  • Actions to take: 
  • Personal-use options: Teams comes with a free or paid Microsoft 365 subscription with a non-College email address. 

Zoom

  • What changes: IC Zoom accounts automatically transition from Licensed to Basic shortly after retiree status begins.
    • A Basic Zoom account includes: Meetings with up to 100 participants, 40 minute meeting limit
  • Actions to take: Download or move any recordings or data you wish to keep before retirement. 
  • Personal-use options: 
    • Free: Create a free basic Zoom account using a non-College email address. 
    • Paid: Purchase a Zoom license using a non-College email address.

  • Note: Your IC Zoom account remains available through ithaca.zoom.us with a Basic license.
