1. New Voicethread Update Overview
On June 30, 2024, Voicethread will be undergoing the biggest update in its history. This transition makes Voicethread fully accessible and brings many new features which will be covered in this article.
Don't worry - the new interface is similar and remains easy to use, and all your threads and other resources will still be completely accessible.
New features
- Bulk comment management options - Edit and delete comments in bulk (click for how-to resources)
- One conversation view - Easily see all thread comments without needing to navigate slideshow (click for how-to resources)
- Zooming and panning while commenting - Zoom in and pan around the slide while recording an audio or video comment (click for how-to resources)
- Audio descriptions of slides
- Option to sort VoiceThreads by “most recently active”
- Compact list of all VoiceThreads in the home page sidebar
- Media sources included in the slide upload options inside an open VoiceThread
- Ability to jump to another slide while commenting without having to flip through them sequentially
- View assignment thumbnails in the course view
Changes
- New version is fully accessible, so VT Universal is no longer necessary
- Comment button moved to the left side of the page
- Slide navigation buttons moved to the left side of the page
- Increased visibility for closed captions
- Comments timelines appear inside the comment window, not at the bottom of the thread
- CC button moved to the bottom-right corner of the page
2. New Interface Walkthrough
Here is a screenshot of the layout of the New Voicethread interface:
As in the original version, Voicethreads are shown on the page as the default. To open the category selector, hit the arrow on the left-hand side of the screen.
The category selector allows you to access your Voicethreads by group, course, on their own or to see your Threadboxes.
As in the previous version, Account settings are located in the upper right hand-corner.
Click on the '+' button to Create a new Voicethread. You will see the following dialogue with familiar options for starting a Voicethread:
