Introduction to Zoom AI Companion

Zoom AI Companion is a collection of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies integrated into Zoom's video communications platform. These AI-driven features are designed to enhance meeting experiences, boost productivity, and deliver valuable insights. 

Zoom AI Companion features are available for all students, faculty, and staff as of August 19, 2024.

Zoom AI Companion has the following key features:

Benefits

  • AI-generated meeting summaries capture key points and action items, reducing or eliminating the need for manual note-taking.
  • Smart recordings automatically organize content by chapter and highlight important information, allowing faster review.
  • Real-time transcription and translation break down language and accessibility barriers and facilitate communication.
  • Live captions provide real-time transcription, aiding those with hearing impairments.
  • Better insights and analytics.
  • Provides post-meeting feedback on various conversation aspects, including talk speed, the use of filler words, and more.

Enabling Zoom AI Companion

  1. Go to ithaca.zoom.us and sign in with your Ithaca College account.
  2. From the left menu bar, select Settings.
  3. In the top menu, select the AI Companion option.
  4. You can toggle the features you want to include, such as Meeting summary with AI Companion and Allow users to ask AI Companion questions about the meeting.
    • Each option can be toggled on or off independently.
    • Changing settings in your Zoom account applies the changes to all future meetings.

How to Check if AI is Enabled or Active in a Meeting

If you are hosting the meeting or have permission to request that AI tools be enabled, the AI Companion symbol will be visible in the bottom toolbar.

When the AI Companion is enabled and active in a meeting, the flashing AI symbol will appear in the top status bar, even if you do not have access to the AI tools yourself.

It is recommended that hosts notify participants when AI tools are active to ensure awareness, and participants should look for the flashing AI symbol when in meetings to identify when AI Companion is active.

Privacy

For details on how Zoom stores and uses your personal data, refer to How Zoom AI Companion features handle your data (zoom.com).

Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, or other communication-related content (such as poll results, whiteboard activity, and reactions) to train its own or third-party artificial intelligence models.
