How to Delay Canvas Announcements to a Future Date

When you create an announcement in Canvas, it will appear immediately to your students. However, Canvas allows you to delay your announcements to post to a future date/time. This allows you to plan your communications in advance, as well as to “draft” announcements.

Pro Tip: To draft an announcement, delay its posting date beyond the current semester, then return and edit it when you are ready to post.

This article will cover how to delay an announcement to a future date in Canvas.

How to Delay Your Announcements in Canvas

1. Create and edit an announcement to have the information you need.

2. Before posting, check the “Delay Posting” box.

3. A menu option will appear. Click on the Calendar icon to schedule your Announcement.

4. Choose a Date and Time. (If you don’t choose a time, the announcement will automatically post at 12:00 AM on the day you chose.)

5. Click Post. The announcement will only be posted and visible to students at the date and time you specified.
