Making and Receiving Calls in Microsoft Teams

Tags Teams

This article provides a guide on how to make and receive audio and video calls in Microsoft Teams. It covers various aspects of calling, including starting a call from a chat, using the Call feature, and answering calls on both desktop and mobile applications.

Starting a Call in Chat

You can make one-on-one or group calls with anyone in your organization directly from a chat without having to host a team meeting. These calls are private and won't appear in any team conversation.

  • While chatting with someone one-on-one or within a group chat, click the video call button to start a video call or the audio call button to start an audio call.
  • To add a new person to a group call, click Show Participants, then type their name or phone number in the search box.

Using the Call Feature

The Call feature in Microsoft Teams allows you to make and receive calls, access your call history, and manage your voicemail. Here are some key functionalities:

  • Making a Call: You can make calls directly from the Calls tab by typing the name or phone number of the person you want to call in the search box and clicking the Call button.
  • Call History: The Calls tab also shows your call history, allowing you to redial or return missed calls quickly.
  • Voicemail: You can access your voicemail from the Calls tab. Click on the Voicemail button to listen to your messages and manage your voicemail settings.

Answering a Call

With the Desktop Application

  • Click Accept With Audio to answer with audio only.
  • Click Accept With Video to accept the call and enable video.
  • Click Decline Call to decline the call.

With the Mobile Application

  • If you are in the mobile application, you can tap answer to start talking.
  • If you are not in the Teams application, you can answer it as you would with a native phone call.
