Guidelines for Cell Phone Video Recording

ORIENTATION & FRAMING

·         Hold the device in landscape mode (horizontally) so it looks like a TV/movie screen.

·         Hold your phone so you can see just above your head and the top of your shoulders in the frame.

·         Use the camera on the back of the phone to record yourself.  To ensure success without the ability to see yourself while recording, it is recommended that you practice beforehand, so that you know the frame that the camera is seeing.

ENVIRONMENT

Before you start recording, think about your surroundings and choose a location that has plenty of natural light.

·         An interior environment is the best option for recording because you can control your surroundings, such as closing an office door for privacy and quality audio.

·         If there is a window in your chosen location, do not record yourself in front of it. Instead, face the window and record with the natural light on your face.

·         Record yourself in front of an uncluttered background that allows the viewer to focus on you. Move anything out of the frame that might be distracting to the viewer, such as plants, computer screens, or personal objects.

·         Record yourself in a space that is quiet. An ideal place would be in your office at work or at home.

SET UP

Turn Off Notifications

When recording on your phone, it is important that the notifications you receive do not interfere with the audio. Set your iPhone or Android device to Do Not Disturb mode to prevent this.

FILE TYPE

Since we want to produce the highest quality video, please change your video recording settings on your phone:

iPhone: Go to the Settings>Camera>Record Video, and then choose 1080p at 30fps or 4K at 30fps.

Android: Go to Camera>Control>Settings>Video Quality, and then select 1080p at 30fps or 4K at 30fps.

RECORDING GUIDELINES

1.    Do not use the zoom function on your phone while recording. Instead, physically move your phone closer.

2.    Stabilize the phone by propping it on something rather than holding it with your hands. This will provide a more stable-looking video.

3.    Remember to look into the lens. It’s important to address the viewer directly and to avoid reading from notes during your recording. This makes the video feel more personable and engaging for the viewer.

4.    Don’t forget to smile!
