After thorough review and consideration, the college has ended its contract with Studio, the embedded media platform in Canvas effective June 30, 2024. Action is required to save you media and host elsewhere.
Students:  You may have submitted assignments via Studio in Canvas.
Faculty: You may have shared video content within your Canvas course and/or required student video submissions.

How does this impact me? What are my next steps?

  • Users should log in to Canvas and click on the Studio icon in the main navigation pane. This will allow you to review all personal media files in Studio and begin making a list of the files and which ones you need to keep. *Note -if you do not want to keep any media files, you do not need to take any action.

How do I know what videos I recorded submitted in Canvas Studio?

  • Click on Canvas studio in the left navigation. The list of videos that you are the owner of will appear on the screen.

To keep or download your Studio media files please refer to the following help articles:

Do I have to download all my videos?

  • If there are videos that are no longer needed or if you have the original video on your laptop or mobile device, no action is needed.  If you have put YouTube links into your Studio content, you may access the YouTube video using the original link.

How do I share or stream videos now to my Canvas course?

I have many videos. Is there any way to download in bulk?

  • No, there isn't a self-service way to download videos in bulk.

How do I know what Studio media content is connected to a Canvas Course?

  • Click the Studio link within the canvas course. All videos associated with the course will show up. These videos may be owned by your or by another TA or co-instructor.
  • Student content submitted via Studio or through an assignment is not owned by you. These videos will go away. Contact the owner of the videos if you want to request access to this content.
  • If you embedded video using EMBED code and an unlisted link to Studio media, there will not be any way to track where that video is embedded.

What happens to video quizzes I created in Studio?

  • You can download the media or save the YouTube link but will lose the video quiz.
  • You can recreate the Video Quiz in Kaltura.

If you need additional assistance with saving your Studio media files, please contact the Center for Instructional Design & Educational Technology (CIE) staff by submitting a service request through the IT support desk (servicedesk@ithaca.edu).
