The Self‑Evaluation Assistant Agent in Microsoft Copilot is designed to support Ithaca College staff as they prepare their annual self‑evaluation. The agent helps you reflect on accomplishments, connect your work to institutional competencies, and organize your responses clearly and effectively. It is intended as a writing and thinking partner, not a replacement for your own judgment or voice. 

This agent draws on official Human Resources performance management resources, including competency definitions and review worksheet, to provide guidance that aligns with the college’s expectations.

This article is intended for IC staff completing an annual self-evaluation as part of the performance review process.

Using AI for Self-Evaluations

Generative AI tools like Microsoft Copilot (signed in with your @ithaca.edu account) can help you brainstorm, organize ideas, and improve clarity, but they should be used thoughtfully. The agent is designed to help you: 

  • Reflect on your accomplishments and outcomes 
  • Map examples to the appropriate competencies 
  • Improve structure, tone, and clarity of your writing

You remain responsible for ensuring that all content is accurate, complete, and representative of your work.

Getting Started

When you're ready to use the agent: 

  1. Go to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat in a web browser 

  1. Sign in with your Ithaca College credentials if prompted 

  1. Open the self-evaluation agent here: Self-Evaluation Assistant 3  

  1. Follow the prompts in the agent to begin refining or drafting your self‑evaluation. 

Tips and Troubleshooting

  • When using the Copilot Agent, if the web page loads blank, or you encounter an error, try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, sign out of your account and sign back in before attempting again. 

  • If the agent is not responding as expected or you prefer to experiment directly with the prompt, refer to the attached copy/paste prompt instructions and work directly in Copilot Chat.
