LastPass Enterprise: Moving Passwords to LastPass

This article provides instructions for importing your saved passwords into LastPass Enterprise. Install the official LastPass browser extension prior to beginning this process. Once you are ready, follow the steps below based on where your passwords are currently stored.

Move from a Browser-Based Password Manager

Google Chrome

Export and Import Google Chrome Password Data

  1. Open Google Chrome 
  2. Visit the following URL: chrome://password-manager/settings
  3. Click on Download file under the Export passwords setting 
  4. If prompted, enter your device password 
  5. Save the file to your computer. If asked, choose a file format of .csv 
  6. Log in to the LastPass browser extension, and then click the red Vault button 
  7. Click on Advanced options in the left sidebar 
  8. Click on Import under the “Manage your vault” heading 
  9. Click on the Chrome icon 
  10. Drag and drop the .csv file created in step 5 into the rectangle with dashed lines, or browse to the file and click Review and import 
  11. Review the items selected for import to LastPass. By default all items are selected for import, but LastPass should contain only work-related passwords. Clear any personal passwords from the selection, then select Import All

Google Chrome Post-Import Tasks

Once your data has been moved from Google’s password manager tool, we strongly recommend deleting your Ithaca College work-related passwords and turning off the ability for Chrome to save passwords to prevent overlap between the browser and LastPass.

Delete Passwords from Chrome

  1. Delete the .csv file generated in step 6 of the export instructions 
  2. Open Google Chrome 
  3. Visit the following URL: chrome://password-manager/settings 
  4. Individually delete the Ithaca College work-related passwords that you migrated to LastPass 

Disable Chrome from Saving Passwords

  1. Click the toggle off under the Offer to save passwords and passkeys heading

Mozilla Firefox

Export and Import Mozilla Firefox Password Data

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox 
  2. Visit the following URL: about:logins 
  3. In the upper right corner, click the horizontal three dots > Export Passwords > Continue with export 
  4. Save the file to your computer. If asked, choose a file format of .csv 
  5. Log in to the LastPass browser extension, and then click the red Vault button 
  6. Click on Advanced options in the left sidebar 
  7. Click on Import under the “Manage your vault” heading 
  8. Click on the Firefox icon 
  9. Drag and drop the .csv file created in step 4 into the rectangle with dashed lines, or browse to the file and click Review and import 
  10. Review the items you want to import to LastPass. By default all items are selected for import, but LastPass should contain only work-related passwords. Clear any personal passwords from the selection, then select Import All.

Mozilla Firefox Post-Import Tasks

Once your data has been moved from Firefox’s password manager tool, we strongly recommend deleting your Ithaca College work-related passwords and turning off the ability for Firefox to save passwords to prevent overlap between the browser and LastPass.

Microsoft Edge

Export and Import Microsoft Edge Password Data

  1. Open Microsoft Edge 
  2. Visit the following URL: edge://settings/autofill/passwords 
  3. Click the three horizontal dots to the right of Passwords Export passwords
  4. If prompted, enter your device password 
  5. Log in to the LastPass browser extension, and then click the red Vault button 
  6. Click on Advanced options in the left sidebar 
  7. Click on Import under the “Manage your vault” heading 
  8. Click on the Chrome icon 
  9. Drag and drop the export file created in step 3 into the rectangle with dashed lines, or browse to the file and click Review and import 
  10. Review the items you want to import to LastPass. By default all items are selected for import, but LastPass should contain only work-related passwords. Select Import All once you are finished making your selections. 

Microsoft Edge Post-Import Tasks

Once your data has been moved from Edge’s password manager tool, we strongly recommend deleting your Ithaca College work-related passwords and turning off the ability for Edge to save passwords to prevent overlap between the browser and LastPass.

Delete Passwords from Edge

  1. Delete the exported file generated in step 3 of the export instructions 
  2. Open Microsoft Edge
  3. Visit the following URL: edge://settings/autofill/passwords
  4. Individually delete the Ithaca College work-related passwords that you migrated to LastPass 

Disable Edge from Saving Passwords

  1. Click the toggle off under the Ask to save passwords heading

MacOS Safari/Passwords App

In MacOS Sequoia (version 15, released 2024) and later, Safari uses Apple’s built-in password manager as a replacement for the former Keychain application for managing passwords.

Export and Import Microsoft Edge Password Data

  1. Open the Passwords app on your Mac (the standalone app in Applications, or search for it with Spotlight) 
  2. Authenticate with Touch ID or your device password when prompted 
  3. In the Finder menu at the top of the screen, click File > Export All Passwords to File – to move only specific passwords, select them first with Command-click and then go to File Export Selected Passwords to File 
  4. Confirm by clicking Export Password…  
  5. If prompted, enter your device password 
  6. Save the export file to a location you can access later 
  7. Log in to the LastPass browser extension, and then click the red Vault button 
  8. Click on Advanced options in the left sidebar 
  9. Click on Import under the “Manage your vault” heading 
  10. Click on the Chrome icon 
  11. Drag and drop the export file created in step 4 into the rectangle with dashed lines, or browse to the file and click Review and import 
  12. Review the items you want to import to LastPass. By default all items are selected for import, but LastPass should only contain work-related passwords. Select Import All once you are finished making your selections.

Delete Passwords from Password App

  1. Delete the exported file generated in step 3 of the export instructions 
  2. Open Passwords app on your Mac (the standalone app in Applications, or search for it with Spotlight)
  3. Authenticate with Touch ID or your device password when prompted
  4. Individually delete the Ithaca College work-related passwords that you migrated to LastPass 

Disable Passwords App from Saving Passwords

  1. Open the Passwords app on your Mac (the standalone app in Applications, or search for it with Spotlight) 
  2. In the Finder menu at the top of the screen, click Passwords > Settings 
  3. In the dropdown box next to Save passwordsclick Ask When Signing In and change the setting to Do Not Ask When Signing In
