A third-party application is any software or online service that is not developed or owned by Ithaca College that is often used to connect to IC systems (like Microsoft Entra, Canvas, Teams, or Zoom) using your Ithaca College credentials via Single Sign-On (SSO).
Examples of third-party applications include Canva, Formstack, Kaltura, Pathify (myIC), Trello, Asana Smartsheet, GitHub, Qualtrics, and many more.
Most commonly used third-party applications are managed and approved by IC, with a formal review process for new requests. IC does not maintain a comprehensive list of all approved apps as such a list can quickly become outdated. Instead, a reference list of the top commonly used and approved apps is provided.
Applications requesting a limited set of low-risk permissions (such as basic profile information) can connect with your Ithaca College account automatically. Other applications needing broader access require review and approval from Information Technology and Analytics (IT&A).
To request a third-party application that is not already approved:
- Submit a request directly within the application (Teams, Zoom, Canvas etc.), at the sign-in window when using Single Sign-On (see examples below), or complete this form: Request Software Application
- IT&A reviews and evaluates the application using Application Integration Considerations criteria such as:
- Publisher verification (Microsoft, Zoom, etc.)
- Security, privacy, and compliance
- Data access and permissions
- Alternatives available at IC
- Contract status (for paid apps)
- User population and impact
- Support and maintenance
- Receive updates via an IT Service Desk ticket for approvals, feedback, or alternatives.
