  1. Search for “Printers” using the search box on your computer’s task bar
  2. Select Printers and Scanners
  3.  Go to “Add Printers”
  4.  Install ToshibaBW and ToshibaColor

Printing from Non-Toshiba Model Printers

Toshiba fleet printers are pre-installed on all new college-issued devices, while other printers are not. If you would like to print from any other type of printer on campus, you will need to first add them to your device before they will show up in the list of available printers when you attempt to print a file.

Add Non-Toshiba Model Printers on college-provided Computers - Windows

Windows users can add Non-Toshiba Model printers to their device by searching the computer for the networked printers. Make sure that you are on the Ithaca College secure network or on Global Protect VPN before adding any printer.

  1.  Go to the search bar in the bottom left-hand corner
  2. Search \\caslon  or  \\icprinters
  3. You will use  \\caslon for departmental printers
  4.  Look for the queue name and click on the appropriate printer

Add Non-Toshiba Model Printers on college-provided Computers - Mac

On campus, we use a server to manage the connection between your computer and the printer. Because of this, MacOS cannot determine the printer type to download printer driver software automatically when using the proper settings. The way to ensure your connection to the printer works long-term with the correct software is to set up the printer via its queue name only to let MacOS automatically download the proper software, and then re-add the printer with the settings to use the print server and the queue name.

Make sure that you are on the Ithaca College secure network or on Global Protect VPN before adding the network printer.

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click Printers and Scanners
  3. Click the "+" located at the bottom left of the window
  4. Click the IP tab (globe)
  5. In the Address field: enter the address of the print server (See below)
    • Faculty and Staff: caslon.campus.ithaca.lan
    • IC printers server: icprinters.campus.ithaca.lan
  6. In the 'Protocol' field: select Line Printer Deamon – LPD
  7. In the 'Queue' field: enter the Queue Name of the printer
  8. In the 'Name' field: enter the Queue Name of the printer again
  9. For the 'Use' dropdown: click Select Software then (choose the appropriate driver)

Locating your printer's driver: Type your printer's queue name in the "Address" box to temporarily display the software that is needed for Step 9 in the "Use" box. Once you document software, replace the text in the "Address" box with "caslon.campus.ithaca.lan". You can also locate the driver on the printer itself as the driver should match the model of printer. (See image below for visual representation)

  1. Locate your driver and Click OK
