Overview
Ithaca College provides multiple printing options to meet the diverse needs of our campus community. Whether you're printing from a personal device, campus computer, or mobile device, this guide will help you understand your printing options and how to use them effectively.
For other document services using the Toshiba MFPs, see our:
Understanding Print Release
When you send a document to print using ToshibaBW or ToshibaColor:
- Your print job is sent to a secure holding queue (not a specific printer)
- Print jobs are held for up to 72 hours
- You can release your job from ANY Toshiba printer on campus
- To release: Tap your ID card or log in at the printer, select Print Release, choose your job(s), and select Print
This system allows you to:
- Print from anywhere and pick up at your convenience
- Keep documents secure until you're at the printer
- Avoid waste from unclaimed prints
Your print jobs follow you. Send to print from any location and release at any Toshiba printer when convenient.
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff print from their office computers to the campus ToshibaBW and ToshibaColor print release queues.
On faculty and staff computers, you add these printers yourself using the PaperCut Print Deploy client. For step-by-step instructions, see our How To: Setup Toshiba Printers guide. Once they are added, print and release them using the steps under Using Campus Printers below. Faculty and staff are not charged for printing.
To print from a personal laptop or phone, you can also use Mobility Print or WebPrint.
Large print job? The campus printers are meant for everyday, walk-up printing - not high-volume runs. For large class handouts, coursepacks, or any big or specialty job, use the
Center for Print Production (the campus print shop) instead. It is faster, cheaper, produces a better result, and keeps the shared printers free for everyone else.
Students
Students can print from a personal device, at a Library Quick Print Station, or on a lab computer. Printing is charged against your student print credit (see Print Quotas).
Mobility Print (Personal Devices)
For the best printing experience from a personal device, we recommend Mobility Print. Mobility Print lets you:
- Print directly to ToshibaBW (black & white) or ToshibaColor (color) printers
- Access full print settings, including single-sided printing and custom options
- Release your print jobs securely at any Toshiba printer on campus
For complete setup instructions for both Windows and Mac, see our How To: Use PaperCut's Mobility Print.
WebPrint (Personal Devices)
WebPrint is a web-based printing portal that works from any device with internet access. This is ideal when:
- You're using a device where you can't install software
- You need to print quickly without setup
- You're printing from a Chromebook, Linux, or mobile device
- You have no special requirements (finishing, staples, custom paper, or single-sided prints)
For detailed instructions, see our How To: Use PaperCut's WebPrint.

Library Quick Print Stations
The library has two large Toshiba multifunction printers (MFPs), with a Library Quick Print Station next to each one. Sign in with your IC account, print from an application or WebPrint, and release your job at either library printer - the printers are already set up. These stations also sign you out automatically when you are done.
These computers erase all data when they restart, and your session is cleared when you sign out. Save anything you need to OneDrive, a USB drive, or email, and delete any downloaded files before you leave.
For step-by-step instructions, including signing out, see Print at a Library Quick Print Station.
Lab Computers
Student lab computers use the same automatic printer setup as the Library Quick Print Stations. The two Toshiba release queues are added for you when you sign in, so there is nothing to install or set up.
Sign in with your IC account, then print and release using the steps under Using Campus Printers below.
If ToshibaBW and ToshibaColor do not appear right after you sign in, wait a few seconds and look again - they are added automatically at sign-in. If they still do not appear, sign out and back in, or contact the Service Desk.
Shared Use Stations
Shared Use stations are shared computers in common areas. They work the same way as faculty and staff computers: the Toshiba printers are not added automatically, so you add them yourself with the PaperCut Print Deploy client and then print and release using the steps under Using Campus Printers below.
Printing is billed based on your account, not the station you use. Faculty and staff are not charged; students are charged against their print credit unless their account qualifies for free printing (see Print Quotas).
Using Campus Printers
Once the printers are set up on a campus computer, office computer, or Shared Use station:
- Open your document in any application
- Press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac)
- Select ToshibaBW or ToshibaColor from the printer list
- Adjust any print settings as needed (see Options and Settings for advanced features)
- Click Print
- Release your print job at any Toshiba printer using your ID card
Center for Print Production (Print Shop)
The Center for Print Production is Ithaca College's on-campus print shop. It handles the volume, materials, and finishing that the campus Toshiba printers cannot, and is the right choice for large runs and specialty jobs - for example, hundreds of copies of a class handout, coursepacks, posters, or banners. The print shop is open to the entire IC community.
The Center for Print Production can produce:
- Cut-sheet printing: letters, class handouts, coursebooks, syllabi, postcards, business cards, small posters, and brochures (up to 13" x 19")
- Wide-format printing and special materials: large posters, banners, and signs, plus printing on foam core, coroplast, stickers, and magnets
- Sublimation printing: full-color, photo-quality designs on apparel, ceramic mugs, plastic, and polyester fabric
- Variable data, bulk mailing, and direct mailing
- Custom orders
Place orders online through their WebCRD web-to-print system, which provides on-screen previews and instant estimates: typeset.ithaca.edu. Payment is by credit card, check, or ID Express.
For services, ordering, and design tips, see the
Center for Print Production. Location: first floor, Public Safety/General Services Building. Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Phone: 607-274-3998. Email:
prepress@ithaca.edu.
Options and Settings
Single-Sided Printing
WebPrint only supports double-sided printing. For single-sided printing, you have two options:
- Print from a campus computer, lab computer, or Library Quick Print Station, where you can choose single-sided in the print settings
- Use Mobility Print from your personal device
For detailed single-sided printing instructions, see our Library Printing FAQ.
Stapling Options
To staple your printed documents:
- Open your document in an application (not a web browser)
- Press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac)
- Select ToshibaBW or ToshibaColor
- Click Preferences or Printer Properties
- Navigate to the Finishing tab
- Select your staple position from the stapling options
- Click OK and Print
Stapling is only available through the system print dialog in applications. Browser-based printing (WebPrint) does not support stapling.
Custom Paper Sizes and Special Paper
For standard paper sizes available in printer trays:
Most Toshiba printers on campus have multiple paper sizes pre-loaded:
- Letter (8.5" x 11") - available in all printers
- Legal (8.5" x 14") - available in most department locations
- Ledger/Tabloid (11" x 17") - available in library printers
Check the printer display or print dialog for available paper sizes before printing. Simply select the desired size in your print settings, and the printer will automatically use the correct tray.
For special paper types or unusual sizes:
Use the bypass tray when printing on:
- Special paper types (cardstock, photo paper, labels, transparencies)
- Unusual paper sizes that are not available in the standard trays
- Any specialty media requiring different handling
To use the bypass tray:
- Select your desired paper size/type in the print settings
- At the printer, open the bypass tray (located on the right side)
- Load your special paper and adjust the guides to fit snugly
- Release your print job
- If prompted on the printer screen, select Bypass Tray as the paper source
For step-by-step instructions with non-standard paper, see our Library Printing FAQ.
Departmental Network Printers
Some departments at Ithaca College maintain their own network printers, separate from the campus-wide Toshiba (PaperCut) print service. Many of these are older HP printers owned by the College. Some newer departmental printers are covered under the Toshiba contract and work like the campus printers described above - the printers in this section are the ones outside that contract.
Departmental network printers are:
- Owned and managed by the individual department
- Not part of the PaperCut system (no print credit or secure release)
- Available only to authorized department members
- Managed separately from campus-wide printing services
If you need access to a departmental printer, contact your department to confirm printer availability and obtain authorization.
For detailed instructions on connecting to departmental network printers, see Departmental Network Printers: Connect and Use.
Key Differences from PaperCut Printers
- No PaperCut account required: Departmental printers do not use the PaperCut system for print management or accounting
- Department-managed supplies: Departments are responsible for ordering toner, paper, and other consumables
- Direct connection required: You must manually add these printers to your computer using the print server address
- Limited IT support: While Information Technology assists with setup and basic troubleshooting, departments manage day-to-day operations
Additional Information
Print Quotas
Printing charges are based on your account, not the computer or station you use.
Faculty and staff are not charged for printing.
Students are charged for printing and receive a printing credit:
- $15.00 at the start of the Fall semester
- An additional $15.00 at the start of the Spring semester (January)
- Check your balance at webprint.ithaca.edu
- Additional print credit can be purchased if needed
Some students receive free printing or a different credit amount based on their role, department, or program - for example, certain student employees and specific academic programs. Alumni and affiliates receive a printing credit. If your balance or charges do not look correct for your role, contact the Service Desk.
